Visteon's sporty fog light bulbs improve visibility for SEAT Ibiza drivers
Visteon Corporation (NYSE: VC) has designed and manufactured a free-form reflector fog lamp for the sport version of the recently launched SEAT Ibiza. The fog lamps improve visibility in bad weather and complement the car's sporty exterior look.
Lighting engineers based at Visteon's Autopal Lighting Technical Centre, in Novy Jicin (Czech Republic), developed specific software program to design a free-form complex reflector system specifically for SEAT Ibiza fog lamps. The system was developed with the goal of optimizing drivers' visibility at night, particularly in bad weather.
The complex reflector system fog lamps incorporate halogen bulbs and clear glass lens. This solution provides the driver with a more exact light distribution, preventing driver distraction.
"We worked closely with our customer, SEAT, throughout the product development process to ensure that their technical requirements were achieved. Involving the customer in the early stages of the evaluation process avoided late design changes and additional costs," said Ladislav Glogar, chairman of Visteon Autopal.
Visteon's European lighting technical center employs 90 engineers, designers and technicians utilizing a Simultaneous Engineering Team approach to product development on all lighting programs. The technical centre works closely with the Autopal Plants to manufacture products as well as tooling and has an integrated dedicated light- testing tunnel to measure all lighting components from concept stage to customer delivery. The fog lamps and the rear reflex will be manufactured at Visteon's Rychvald facility, close to Novy Jicin.
Visteon also manufactures and supplies the centre console and plastic trim parts for the SEAT Ibiza. These will be manufactured at Igualada facility near Barcelona for delivery to SEAT's Martorell vehicle assembly plant.
