GE Lighting presents new General Electric light bulbs : Reveal™
According to market researcher Yankelovich, Inc. “comfortable” and “cozy” are the top words Americans use to describe their homes. In fact, Americans spend more than $149 billion a year on home improvements. With the recent launch of the GE Revealä line of light bulbs, adding a dose of comfort and color to the home just got easier and more affordable. The Reveal line incorporates a unique technology that makes everything it lights appear richer in color, creating a more inviting home atmosphere.
GE Lighting conducted six years of consumer research on Reveal, including tests with 4,000 people, the majority of whom said the bulbs improved the quality of light in their homes by providing crisper, cleaner lighting. Reveal bulbs will be available in the U.S. and Canada this October.
Nearly three-quarters of Americans responding to a recent survey said that light quality affects their moods*. Survey respondents also overwhelmingly acknowledged the importance of good lighting for a variety of home settings including: romance (76 percent), holiday entertaining (76 percent), dinner with friends (75 percent), watching a movie (72 percent), cooking dinner (58 percent), taking a bath (50 percent) and even paying the bills (33 percent).
“Redecorating” with Color-Enhancing GE Reveal Bulbs
“There are hundreds of ways to add comfort and color to a home, from painting the walls to changing the upholstery to adding personalized accessories…and now better lighting can also add the effect people desire,” said Mary Beth Gotti, Manager of the GE Lighting Institute. “Reveal bulbs offer a simple, affordable and immediate way for homeowners to make colors pop and truly make a living space more cheerful, vibrant and inviting.”
“How dramatic is the difference? Reveal bulbs will allow people to see their worlds in a whole new light,” said Matt Espe, President and CEO of GE Lighting. “When 85 percent of trial users said that they prefer the light from this bulb over ordinary bulbs in a variety of home applications, we listened. GE’s focus on the Reveal product line clearly demonstrates GE’s continuing commitment to the product leadership that began over 100 years ago when Thomas Edison founded our company,” he added.
The Technology - Neodymium
The quality of Reveal light is achieved by adding the natural earth element, Neodymium, to the glass. It’s what gives GE Reveal bulbs their distinctive powder-blue color when unlit. When lit, the element provides a pure, true light by filtering out much of the dulling yellow cast common in ordinary light bulbs.
“Typically, this technology is relatively expensive, often times between $7 and $20 per bulb. But GE’s investment in research and manufacturing enabled us to bring consumers a higher-quality bulb with higher-quality light that is also truly affordable,” said Ken Damato, General Manager, Consumer Marketing. In fact, the suggested retail price range is $2.99 to $3.99 for a four-pack.
Extensive consumer research showed that people favor GE Reveal bulbs for overall light in a room, citing the “crisper” nature of Reveal light – which also makes it ideal for task lighting. As a result, GE Reveal bulbs can make common household activities, detail work and even hobbies more enjoyable. While they bring out definition and texture, they also reveal existing color in your home environment.
GE’s Reveal bulbs – “the bulb that uncovers pure, true light™” – initially will be available at home centers, mass merchandisers, hardware stores, supermarkets and drugstores in the U.S. and Canada with 22 different light bulb types, including four-packs of 40-, 60-, 75- and 100-watt light bulbs. Reveal bulbs will also come in three-way, flood lights, vanity globes and candelabra lights, among other styles.
